PART TIME YOUTH ORGANIZER


About the Position:

The Part-Time Youth Organizer is a key member of the PSU team, playing a vital role in executing our annual base-building plan. This position offers a unique opportunity to work alongside passionate young people, develop valuable organizing skills, and contribute to a movement for educational justice.

Responsibilities:

  • Member Engagement:

    • Participate in member outreach activations, skills-building workshops, and social events.

    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with school staff, community members, and existing/prospective PSU members through consistent contact (calls, texts, social media, etc.).

  • Leadership Development: Co-facilitate skills-building workshops, info sessions, citywide member meetings, and chapter meetings. Provide mentorship and political education to support the leadership development of PSU members.

  • Campaign Support: Organize chapter members to participate in organization-wide events and campaigns.

  • Program Implementation: Assist in the development and implementation of the annual base-building plan under the supervision and support of PSU's Executive Director.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for social justice and youth empowerment.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).

  • Experience with community organizing, youth development, or related fields preferred.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

  • Proficiency in using computers and relevant software (e.g., Google Suite, social media platforms).

  • Commitment to the mission and values of the Philadelphia Student Union.

  • Flexible schedule with ability to work some evenings and weekends

Benefits:

  • Part-time salary of $25 per hour for up to 20 hours per week (excluding extended trainings, retreats, etc.)

  • Limited medical and dental coverage provided.

  • 20 vacation days per year.

Hiring Process:

The Executive Director will conduct initial on-on-one interviews and finalists will be interviewed by a group of PSU staff and member leaders.
